New analyzers reduce test costs for wireless component manufacturers

October 20, 2015, Beijing – Keysight Technologies Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) today introduced the industry's highest performing PXIe multiport vector network analyzer, the M9485A VNA, designed for mass production of wireless components used in cell phones and base stations. Designs such as front end modules, switches and filters.

The true multi-port architecture delivers state-of-the-art measurement speeds that are up to 30% faster than competing competitors and maintain a high dynamic range. The frequency coverage from 1 MHz to 9 GHz leaves room for future component design. Customers can accurately configure the number of ports required, save money, and quickly reconfigure as test needs change.

In volume manufacturing, test speed is a critical point and space is often limited. The M9485A's true multi-port capability accommodates up to 24 ports, allowing all receivers to synchronize with a common source to measure all S-parameters at once. This configuration greatly reduces the number of scans used for multiport measurements compared to switch matrix based solutions. These features increase productivity and measure throughput while minimizing footprint and speeding up testing.

Akira Nukiyama, vice president and component testing division of Keysight Technologies (Kobe, Japan), said: "The true multiport PXI VNA greatly reduces the number of scans used for multiport device measurements compared to switch matrix based VNAs. Achieve higher measurement throughput. For example, a 24-port PXIe VNA requires only 24 scans for a 24-port device, while a 4-port VNA with a switch matrix requires 264 scans. The number of scans is reduced by a factor of 10 while performance There will be no impact."

The new M9485A PXIe multiport VNA delivers industry-best performance with fast measurement speeds (two-port calibration, 5 ms at 201 points) and wide dynamic range (up to 142 dB dynamic range). The VNA also offers low trace noise (0.001-dBrms at 10 kHz IFBW) and high stability (0.005 dB/°C). By combining the multi-port and multi-site measurement capabilities of the M9485A, this performance helps users reduce test costs.

Keysight's new multi-port PXIe VNA uses the same measurement technology and calibration technology as the PNA/ENA network analyzer, supporting frequency offset mode, time domain analysis and N-port calibration measurements. With the modular concept of PXI, VNA allows users to perform flexible upgrades and repairs when necessary. Compared to desktop instruments, VNAs with the same number of ports provide significant space savings for users.
