Keysight Introduces CAN FD/SENT Triggering and Decoding Option for InfiniiVision Oscilloscopes
October 20, 2014, Santa Rosa, Calif. – Keysight Technologies Inc. announced that it has provided CAN FD (Flexible Data Rate) and SENT (Single Sided Nibble Transmission) decoding for its InfiniiVision 4000 X-Series oscilloscopes. Trigger the option. New options enable engineers to more efficiently complete CAN FD and SENT serial bus commissioning, making them ideal for automotive measurement applications.
CAN FD is a higher performance next-generation serial bus protocol for automotive control and fault diagnostic applications. It allows engineers to reduce bus load to increase throughput and meet the demanding requirements of automotive applications. The “classic” CAN 2.0 serial bus is based on an event-driven architecture with a maximum actual transfer rate of 1 Mbps. However, for the CAN FD bus, the data transfer rate per frame has been increased and the maximum payload has been increased from 8 bytes to 64 bytes. Compared to the time-triggered serial bus protocol (eg FlexRay), the transition from CAN 2.0 to CAN FD technology represents an easier and smoother advantage.
For the integrity (physical layer) detection and debugging of high-speed serial bus signals using an oscilloscope, it is important to have a higher rate of CAN FD. Keysight's latest CAN FD triggering and decoding options for the InfiniiVision 4000 X-Series oscilloscopes are based on hardware decoding technology to achieve the industry's fastest decoding update rate. Faster waveform and decode update rates increase the chances of the oscilloscope capturing random and sporadic errors. The detection and removal of bus errors in the design is an important part of ensuring the safety of the vehicle system.
In addition to the application of hardware decoding technology to quickly capture sporadic bus errors, the 4000 X-Series oscilloscopes offer the industry's most comprehensive CAN FD error triggering and analysis. This includes decoding, accumulating, and triggering (by frame ID filtering) for specific errors, such as bit stuffing errors, geometric bit errors, CRC errors, acknowledgment errors, and error frames.
SENT is a point-to-point serial bus that connects sensors to the ECU. Options for InfiniiVision 4000 X-Series Oscilloscopes SENT decodes serial data on fast and slow channels and offers a wide range of triggering options, such as triggering different error conditions. The InfiniiVision 4000 X-Series oscilloscope is currently the only oscilloscope that can trigger a SENT bus signal.
